Well done to Pellegrini and the players today
|
Pellegrini has obviously gone away and had a rethink over the break. Much more solid midfield three with the players he picked, which made us tougher to play against and really helped. Gave the front three much more freedom to play as well. To go to Goodison and play/win like that against a decent team, even with some injuries is an absolute credit to the players who showed a lot of fight, determination and no shortage of quality.
Rice was absolutely superb, and I’ve given Anderson dog’s abuse after the past few games but he was excellent today. Yarmolenko looks the bollocks as well. Noble was better being allowed to play further forward and the centre backs are beginning to look a good pair.
Sure it wasn’t perfect and we got a bit of (deserved) luck, but this was truly excellent. Massive credit to the manager and all the players. More of this please!
Only possible downside is if Arnie is injured, and we don't need Perez playing the cunt and refusing to warm up or come on. As it happens Antonio and Snodgrass both acquitted themselves well so he's going to have to work for his place.

No denying how shocking Everton were, shame we couldn't play them every week

Agreed, credit where it is due. Everton were poor but they hadn't lost before today, not many fancied us really, I didn't.
The middle looked like all new players, Rice was amazing and agreed allowed the front players to do their thing.
Our season starts now. Now to fucking make the most of this set up and kick on.

Enjoy today! We are not the finished article, there will be ups and downs. We need to be tighter at the back against the top sides and suspect we’ll take some beartings, maybe like today we’ll dish some out, some sorting out in the Jan window, but on balance we look like going in the right direction.

If Rice cuts out the errors, he’s worth a fortune.

How many errors as he made? I can only think of one. He’s 19, and whether a centre half or holding midfielder, he is a class act. I personally think his best position is centre half, but more performances like today and he could easily make holding midfield his in this team.

Well done Pellegrini and the boys.
Had a feeling we’d win today. Needed it. Pressure off for a couple of games.

Eff, agree with all of that,
I wasn’t talking about errors today, more focussed on recent games he’s made massive mistakes.
I hope he can cut them out, he’ll be one hell of a player, worth millions

Hopefully this is the end of the beginning and this is the start of an upward curve in performances and results.
We rode our luck at times but played some of the football we played today was exceptional, both with and without the ball it was as good an away performance in recent memory.
The system was spot on, Rice and Obiang were fantastic in the middle. But more pleasingly was the work rate and commitment to the way the manager had asked them to play.
Bring on Chelsea.

Wilshere injured. First win. Blessing in disguise.
Midfield much better with rice and Pedro.
They were both superb today.

I think there are at least going to be three teams worse than us this season and after that performance I think we’ll be just fine relegation wise.

I swear I thought that maybe Injury's will force the managers hand and Wilshere being out has definitely done that.
We looked more like a team today and thank god the ruskie or is it Ukranian is starting, he looked as tasty as a cheese and pickle sandwich when you have not eaten for 5 days, along with Anderson and Arnie who were great even Noble who is not all that but when the team play he fits in every time and never looks out of place, even the defence although pressured were pretty decent.
Very happy Hammer tonight First positive COYI'SSSSSSSSSSSSSS of the season from me.

Obiang too was solid and clever.

I am not a Noble fan and wish he was sold long ago, but I have always said that when the team play as a team he is inevitably one of the best players, it's when things are not going well that he looks lacking in ability and intelligence even want, he just disappears with a succession of slow backward passes and practically no invention, but whether that is him or the team as a whole that creates his invisible man act I am not sure.

Leon Osman is spot on about midfield 3 of Obiang, Rice and Noble on MOTD. Shape, support and never far from each other with Rice bossing it.
He's gutted, but fair play.
